2025 The Great Global Greyhound Walk

The Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) is proud to be part of the 2025 Great Global Greyhound Walk — a worldwide celebration of greyhounds, lurchers, and other sighthounds. This much-loved annual event brings together hound owners and enthusiasts across the globe to shine a spotlight on these incredible breeds and showcase the loving, devoted companions they make in the home.
“We’re thrilled to once again join this worldwide celebration of greyhounds and sighthounds,” said GAP Rehoming Manager Lisa Kohler. “It’s a fantastic chance to highlight just how special these dogs are and inspire more people to open their homes and hearts to adoption.”
The 2024 Great Global Greyhound Walk saw a record-breaking 13,383 sighthounds participating across 511 walks in 42 countries. This year, GAP will proudly host two walks in Queensland on Sunday, 28 September:
Brisbane (9am): Leslie Patrick Park, 135 Olearia Street West, Arana Hills, 4054
Townsville (8am): The Strand Rockpool, North Ward, Townsville, 4810
Greyhounds are truly exceptional companions,” added Ms Kohler. “They’re gentle, affectionate, and wonderfully loyal dogs, who thrive in a loving and caring home. We invite everyone to join one of our walks and discover for themselves just how incredible greyhounds really are.”
Whether you already own a greyhound, admire the breed, or are simply curious about these gentle hounds, everyone is welcome to take part in this global celebration. The event is a great opportunity to connect with fellow greyhound enthusiasts and discover more about these remarkable dogs.

About the Greyhound Adoption Program
The GAP is run by the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) and is dedicated to finding homes for greyhounds that have retired from racing.
It is our mission to find suitable, loving, homes for retired racing greyhounds, encourage a more positive image of the greyhound and to stimulate the public’s desire to own a greyhound as a family pet. We also train and prepare greyhounds for life as family pets and provide ongoing advice and support to the greyhound and its new owners.
We at the GAP know that greyhounds make fantastic pets. As with any breed of dog, they are individuals with unique personalities. Some are high energy, excitable and affectionate, others are laid back, calm and reserved. However, in general greyhounds are best described as quiet and gentle dogs that thrive in a family home environment.
We believe there is a greyhound to suit almost every situation. Whether you prefer an outgoing dog who enjoys obedience training or playing fetch with the kids for example, or you want a calm and sensitive companion, we have a greyhound for you!
