GAP Adoption Day

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) will hold its next Greyhound Adoption Day at the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club on 2 March.

The GAP has adopted 179 greyhounds to loving families so far this year and is hoping to increase those figures on adoption day.

Racing Integrity Commissioner Ross Barnett said Adoption Day events were a great opportunity for members of the public to gain an understanding of what it means to own a greyhound as a pet.

“We always match families with every greyhound, so it’s important that your pre-registration paperwork is submitted to ensure we have a greyhound that will fit into your family and circumstances,” he said.

“The GAP team will have dogs on site to get to know on the day, but if it is your intention to adopt and take a greyhound home that day we ask that you fill out an application form situated on the GAP website at gapqld.com.au under the Applications tab.

“The Adoption Day will also allow for any prospective adoptee or foster families to meet a greyhound and chat with the GAP team to have their questions answered regarding the adoption or foster process.”

GAP works with the greyhound racing industry to encourage a more positive image of the greyhound breed and stimulates the public’s desire to own a greyhound as a family pet.

All greyhounds that come to GAP from the racing industry are pre-assessed then prepared for life as family pets, the team also provide ongoing advice and support to the greyhound and its new owners.

The Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club at 66 Old Cleveland Road Capalaba, is hosting the GAP Adoption Day in a first for the club. GAP Adoption Day on 2 March will be held from 9:30am to 12:30pm. All pre-registrations must be approved by 22 of February.
