Ernie is living in foster care and ready for adoption.

Ernie is a loving, affectionate boy who truly thrives on human connection. He adores being the centre of your world and would be perfectly content as a single dog soaking up all the love and attention. That said, he could also live happily with a calm, polite medium to large breed companion. A home without children would suit him best.

Ernie would make a wonderful companion for a retired person or couple, or for part-time workers who are home more often than not. He’s a true homebody and loves simply being near his people throughout the day, quietly keeping you company. He needs to be mostly an indoor dog and is very trustworthy inside — he has excellent toileting habits and will let you know when he needs to head out.

While he enjoys a short, leisurely stroll down the street for a good sniff and some fresh air, Ernie is still building confidence exploring further from home. He’s happiest with short block walks and will need a patient, understanding owner who is happy to go at his pace. He can be a little sensitive to sudden sounds and may occasionally get spooked, but with gentle reassurance and redirection, he responds beautifully. If Ernie misses his daily walk, he is completely fine and content with some zoomies in the backyard. He does sometimes get unsure of other dogs on his walks but responds well to treats and being redirected.

At home, Ernie’s personality shines. He absolutely loves greeting visitors at the front door (sometimes with an excited bark to say hello!) and has a soft spot for his squeaky toys. In the afternoons, he enjoys some playtime in the yard and even has his own special digging and lounging spot where he happily naps in the sunshine.

Ernie could live in a townhouse with decent outdoor space or a house with a yard — as long as he has room for a little afternoon play and, most importantly, a cosy spot indoors near his people.

Ernie’s suitability:

  • Can live in a townhouse (with some decent outdoor/yard space)
  • Can live with a medium to large dog friend
  • Content on being a solo dog
  • Quiet neighbourhood
  • House or townhouse with a yard (minimal stairs preferred)
  • Patient and gentle owners
  • Would be great for a retired family
  • No children in the home
